Eyewear for the Would-Be Hollywood Star

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

If you are aspiring to be an actor or actress, you’ll need to look the part. Accessories are key. Don’t have a pair of the right pair of shades, a flannel hat, a stunning purse and killer shoes before leaving for the West Coast. If you cannot afford designer clothes, head to the Hollywood Goodwill and deck yourself out in vintage favorites from yesteryear. Spend your money on accessories, which are what Hollywood stars, managers, agents and casting directors will notice first.

Remember to put you best face forward. In Hollywood, appearances are everything. You’ll want to appear fresh and unique, but balance that with a sanity that is much needed in California by having a few accessories that are loud and flashy and a few that are subtle and traditional. A safe bet is designer eyewear like Mykita, Chrome Hearts, Salt or Alain Mikli paired with traditional shoes that are simple and elegant. Next get a stunning and flashy belt, but pair it with a simple and traditional leather bag. Finally, top off the look with either a simple hat, or plain conservative jewelry.

In Hollywood there are very few things that have stood the test of time. Sunglasses are one of those things, divorce is another. Nearly every popular young star has been photographed in Sunglasses. Find a way to make your aviators stand out in Hollywood and you’ll have found a way to make yourself unique enough to be remembered by casting directors.

Finally, study the stars. Try not to copy their every design move, but instead attempt to unearth subtle trends that emerge across a span of A-list actors or actresses, and then put your own unique spin on the design and move from there. For example, when baseball caps were the hottest thing in Hollywood, a few took to piercing their brims, coloring on the inside brim or otherwise decking out their clothing to stand apart and yet still fit in. Break a leg!

Chunky EyeGlasses

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Eyewear projects a certain image, for example, the chunky black glasses Elvis Costello wears on his show, Spectacle. The “dark and heavy” glasses combine with the dark hat makes for a dramatic look.

Walk into a eyeglass store and you immediately understand why choosing the right pair of frames among the hundreds available can be daunting. While form and function are primary concerns, choosing the right color and style of frames to complement your face shape and reflect your character are equally important. Your glasses say a lot about you and your personality. They also project a particular image. The glasses that Elvis is wearing  are very dark and heavy and with the scale and dark hat, he has created a very dramatic look.

A round face is as wide as it is long and looks balanced with rectangular frames. Colorful frames add a playful edge, well suited for creative people. Celebrities with this face shape include: Renee Zellweger, Drew Barrymore, Kate Bosworth, Fergie, Kelly Osbourne.

A heart shape face shape is identified by its high cheek bones, a broad forehead and narrow chin. Light colored or rimless frames are recommended to make the eyes stand out. Celebrities with this face shape include: Michelle Pfeiffer, Lisa Kudrow, Naomi Campbell, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Avril Lavigne, Mary-Kate Olsen, Carmen Electra.

A oval faces are longer than wider and are considered to be well-balanced. People with this type of face can wear just about any frame as long as it is proportionate to the face. Celebrities with this face shape include: Jennifer Anniston, Mariah Carey, Cindy Crawford, Jewel, Heather Locklear, Sharon Stone, Uma Thurman, Julia Roberts, Courtney Cox Arquette, Elle MacPherson, Tyra Banks

Angular or square faces have a wide forehead, chin and cheeks. Round glasses soften this shape while a single color frame gives a more conservative look. Celebrities with this face shape include: Jessica Simpson, Janet Jackson, Mandy Moore, Ashley Judd, Calista Flockhart, Mena Suvari, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Hilary Swank.

Tag Heuer Eyewear

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

When it comes to eyewear, the look usually is more important than the protection they offer. This is what separates typical sunglass wearers with people who wear TAG Heuer eyewear. Not only do they look good doing so, they also have the best sunglasses for the job. That job could be anything from driving at night or during the day. You need your eyewear to help you drive better because you rely on them not to have glares. The TAG Heuer name made its history from providing the best possible design with the best possible look. They started out in the watch spectrum and expanded from there.

Just because the TAG Heuer eyewear will give you the best protection while you are driving at the track, you do not have to be a serious racer to appreciate the sunglasses’ look. A few years ago they made their way into the public arena and have not left. That is because people recognized how great of a design the sunglasses had. They also found that they were getting so much more protection than any other sunglasses they have tried in the past. People were not used to this great combination but they loved it.

A large group of people who embraced the TAG eyewear were celebrities. This is because there are lines that provide great fashion with the staples of the TAG line, such as shatterproof lenses. The TAG Heuer 9003 style is the perfect example. It is slightly oversized but still small enough that it looks great on any man’s face. If you are looking for a sleeker design, then check out the TAG Heuer 6003. It will make you look as if you are just back from the track. There also are frameless glasses available, which look modern and effortless.

Another reason why the TAG Heuer Eyewear has gone mainstream is because of the clientele who have been spotted wearing them. In the celebrity world, the most famous client sporting the TAG look is Tom Cruise. Perhaps it is because of the comfortable non-allergenic nose pads. They also made their way into the sporting world, with clients such as Tiger Woods, Maria Sharapova and Yao Ming. The glasses also can be seen on nearly all the Formula 1 racing men. If you want to join the crowd and wear the best sunglasses, visit ContactsandSpecs.com for additional information.

Sunglasses Etiquette Tips

DON’T wear them inside, because you’ll look like an idiot.

DON’T wear them on a string around your neck.

DON’T wear them on the back of your head. Seriously, don’t do it.

DO take them off when introducing yourself to someone. Eye contact is key.

DO take them off when something dramatic happens, à la Horatio from CSI: Miami.

A Ford Escape that can be driven by a blind person

Friday, June 25th, 2010

Virginia Tech brings good news for the visually impaired; the first ever vehicle that allows a blind person drive on his own. This January, Virginia Tech along with National Federation of the Blind is on their way to demonstrate a vehicle that enables a blind person drive independently. The effort is seen as a breakthrough in technology that has helped blind become self reliant not only in day to day life but also in undertaking tasks as difficult as driving their own car without help.

Researchers at Virginia Tech are on their way to modify a Ford Escape that can be driven by a blind person. The vehicle, Ford Escape will be launched at the Daytona International Speedway before

the Rolex 24 race on January 29th, 2011 and will be driven by a blind person. The modified Ford is equipped with facilities that signals a blind driver and indicates when to turn through its DriveGrip vibrating gloves. A map of vehicles and objects is also created around the vehicle thanks to AirPix, a tablet that pushes compressed air out of multiple air holes. The invention is the result of the NFB Blind Driver Challenge accepted by Virginia Tech three years ago to develop a vehicle that does not do the driving for the blind rather create a vehicle with nonvisual interfaces that allows the blind to actually make driving decision. This vehicle was not an autonomous car that helps a blind person go around but enables him to actually drive the car.

Virginia Tech has the experience of developing driverless vehicles in the year 2007 when it entered the DARPA Grand Challenge, a competition seeking driverless vehicles and came third. The company developed a vehicle that used sensors to perceive traffic and avoid objects and vehicles on the way. After the successful development of the vehicle Virginia Tech decided to enter the NFB challenge.

Dr. Dennis Hong, Director of Robotics and Mechanism Laboratory at Virginia Tech, while commenting about the vehicle added that the vehicle is not an autonomous car that drives on its own and takes a blind person to places, but it is a vehicle that he himself can drive taking driving decisions on his own. He said, “The object of the project was not to create a vehicle that would do the driving for a blind person, but allow a blind person to do the driving.”
